  • Q. What should I do if my loan won't be processed before payment is due?
    • A. If your loan isn't scheduled to disburse before the fee bill due date, you may need to apply for a billing deferment. Some deferments will be automatically processed by the Financial Aid office, so it's important to know the specifics of your loan. The Deferments section of the Bursar's Office is responsible for all deferment requests. Note that a fee may apply to some deferment requests. For more information, stop by the Student Services Center or call the Deferments section of the Bursar's Office.
  • Q. I am in a desperate financial situation and need help what can I do?
    • A. We understand that at some point in your college career, an unpredicted event may cause a temporary financial burden. In such an event, students can apply for an emergency loan. If you are encountering an extreme situation that will impair your ability to pay for your college education, you are encouraged to meet with a financial aid counselor.
  • Q. Where can I get a copy of my fee bill?
    • A. Your fee bill details the charges incurred and financial aid awarded for the semester. Fee bills are currently available in printed form, though you can check your balance on-line. Checking account balance: To check account balance,go to the relevant Bursar Services page. You can also request your latest fee bill statement in printed form from the Student Services help desk in Wilbur Cross Building. For a detailed view of your fee bill, go to the Bursar's Office, cashier section. Office staff will print a copy for you.
  • Q. My registration is barred because of a financial obligation, what should I do?
    • A. Registration and transcript request holds are placed on your account when you have an outstanding balance of $100 or more. To remove the hold on your account, you must settle the financial matter with the Bursar's Office.
  • Q. How will I be notified about my financial aid availability?
    • A.You will receive an email in your HuskyMail account, indicating that your financial aid awards are ready to be viewed via the Student Administration System. Access the Student Administration System and complete all steps on the Financial Aid Action page. Click on the Student Help Link for assistance. Be sure to print a copy of the page for your records.
  • Q. What's the best loan for me?
    • A. A variety of loans are available for students, including Federal Stafford and Perkins loans, plus alternative loan options offered by UConn's lending partners. Each loan has individual characteristics that may make it the best choice for you. You should discuss the specifics of the loans offered to students with a financial advisor or a Financial Aid counselor for more information and advice.
  • Q. Is there a loan that my parents can apply for to help pay for my education?
    • A. Parents can apply for a Federal Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS). Funds are borrowed by the parent on behalf of the student. For more information, visit www.financialaid.uconn.edu or contact the Financial Aid office at 1-860-486-2819.
